Meet The 2021-2022 DETSA State Officer Candidates

Candidate Bio

Zainab Almakhedhi
Hello Delaware TSA! My name is Zainab Almakhedhi, a junior at MOT Charter High School, and I’m beyond honored to be running as the DETSA State Treasurer Candidate.

Joining TSA for the past three years has given me the opportunity to find my interests, passions, and values. From competing in STEM and Arts related events, to collaborating effectively as a TSA Chapter Team, TSA has given me the opportunity to further seek my interests, passions, and gain essential skills necessary for any field. I hope to utilize my skills to further advance TSA and collaborate as an effective team to make a more memorable experience for all members. I plan to demonstrate that innovation as a leader to others, cooperate with peers, and develop efficiency in the technology field. I would like to be primarily responsible for the financial aspects of the organization to accommodate for all analytical necessities. I would like to accomplish essential goals such as creating virtual service volunteering opportunities to gain involvement within the community, presentation guides to assist chapters, expanding TSA chapters across Delaware, and using innovative software platforms for communication. By serving on the DETSA level, I can collaborate with peers and others in competing for technological events using higher network platforms and share the innovative outcomes of technology.

Samra Iqbal
Hello Delaware TSA! My name is Samra Iqbal, I am currently your DETSA State Reporter, and I am running to be one of your 2021-2022 DETSA State Officers!

I am currently a sophomore at Caesar Rodney High School, and this is my fourth year participating in TSA. My favorite TSA events are Fashion Design and Technology and Challenging Tech Issues. Outside of TSA, I am a part of Girls Who Code, Arabic Club, Scrubs Club, and the Math League team at my school. Outside of school, I am a member of DYLN and Girls Tech Together. During my free time, I enjoy baking, doing cool DIYs, and learning new skills, like golfing and sewing. I am excited to run for state office again and cannot wait to see what the year has in store for DETSA!

Karen Netto
Hello Delaware TSA! My name is Karen Netto, your current State Treasurer, and I am delighted to be running again this year to be a part of the 2021-2022 State Officer Team!

The reason why I am seeking re-election is because I strongly believe that the experience I have gained from serving TSA in both the chapter and state level has made me the leader I am today. If I am re-elected, I can guarantee you that I will work hard every day to make TSA a better experience for all members across the state of Delaware. Making this upcoming year a valuable and memorable experience will be my top priority. Together, I hope we can work towards providing more opportunities in leadership, communication, and service through creating a middle school ambassador program, streamlining more interactive activities and events on our social media platforms to help bond with members across the state in this virtual environment, and by hosting an event for local technology companies to come provide students with internship and scholarship opportunities. It would be my honor to be re-elected, and I am thrilled to see what we will all accomplish together this upcoming year. Thank You!

Olutoba Ojo
Hey DETSA! My name is Olutoba (‘Toba) Ojo, and I’m pleased to be a candidate for this year’s Delaware TSA State Officer team.

I’ve been a member of Delaware TSA for about 3 years presently, competing in a variety of events such as coding, music production, and webmaster, and receiving awards at state and national levels. For a bit of my background, I’m currently a sophomore/rising junior in high school, and I’m particularly passionate about computer science as well as bioinformatics/computational biology. Additionally, I am a teamwork-oriented and outgoing leader with a drive for success. I will contribute to all areas of work, with coherent communication, excellent work ethic, and friendliness! Thank you for considering my candidacy!

Samhitha Vallury
Hello, Delaware TSA! My name is Samhitha Vallury, and I’m running for the position of Secretary for the 2021-2022 officer team.

TSA allows members to explore their interests, develop technical skills, and grow as a person. Because I know how important TSA is to all of us, I want to help improve the experience at the state level. As a state officer, I would want to implement changes to better communication between chapter and state administration. As an active participant in events, I know how difficult it can sometimes be to find resources and opportunities, so I want to make that easier through improved strategies for communication, like help desk sessions where you can ask questions. My experience includes being the Secretary of my school’s chapter of BPA, Co President of Debate Club, and Vice President of Communications in my chapter of TSA. These positions have taught me how to better organize events, improve my leadership, and find creative solutions to problems, which are skills I can utilize as a state officer. I hope you choose to vote for me. Let’s work together to make next year as great as possible!

Natalie Yang
Hello Delaware TSA! I’m Natalie Yang, and I’m running to be your treasurer for the 2021-2022 state officer team.

I am currently a junior at Newark Charter High School, and I’m excited to grow along with each and every one of you! The numerous fields and different applications of STEM as well as its impact on the community has always been integrated into me throughout my childhood. This passion continued on throughout my high school career as I have participated in programs such as Science Olympiad, Women in STEM Experience, and Cyberstart America. Outside of my STEM activities, I enjoy volunteering in service projects, participating in my school’s language honor societies, advocating for the environment through youth-led initiatives, playing the piano, practicing tennis, finding ways to be creative in a virtual world, meeting and learning from new people, and helping others build their confidence in the field they want to pursue.
