Delaware TSA Members Find Great Success at National Conference Finalizing in Nearly 20 Awards

Delaware TSA Students competed against nearly 4,000 other participants from throughout the United States and world
Delaware Technology Student Association Students (TSA) competed at the National Conference in Dallas, Texas from June 21-25, 2011. Nearly 54 student members competed in more than 70 individual and 65 team competitive events that were based on principles and concepts learned through activities during the school year in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related content. The conference recognized the innovative potential of students as they pursue technological careers. The theme of National conference was “Snapshot of Innovation.”
High school and middle school technology students, guided by their teachers, prepared throughout this past school year to compete with nearly 4,000 peers from throughout the world in events such as Biotechnology, CAD, Construction, Dragster Design, Engineering Design, Structural Engineering, Technical Drawing, Flight Endurance, Promotional Graphics, Robotics and Transportation Modeling, Career Preparation, and more.
Additionally, Delaware members participated in leadership trainings. The TSA leadership trainings were designed to develop and enhance leadership skills through customized sessions for middle and high school students and teachers, graduating seniors and chapter and state TSA officers.
TSA partners with The American Cancer Society (ACS) for its national service project. Delaware was recognized for their fundraising efforts in raising the most money per capita. Mount Pleasant was recognized for raising the most money in the nation, with $48,000. P.S. duPont Middle School was recognized as a Diamond chapter raising $1,464. Concord High School was recognized as a Platinum chapter raising $805. Delaware attendees also took part in the TSA/ACS Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back commemorative event.
The first of four general sessions was held on Wednesday, June 22 to open the conference. Bridgette Spritz, Delaware’s 2011-2012 DE TSA President represented the First State at the “Parade of State Flags” ceremony where a keynote address was given by National TSA Alumni, Rakesh Patel and Bart Slabbekorn.

Conference honors included:
John Singer was honored as Delaware TSA’s Middle School Teacher of the Year.
Tim Elmer was honored as Delaware TSA’s High School Teacher of the Year.
Concord High School was honored for Chapter Excellence.
Pratyusha Gupta was elected to serve as the National TSA President.
