More than 619 students and advisors from 34 chapters across the state recently attended the 2013 Delaware Technology Student Association State Conference, many bringing home honors. This year’s conference had a record registration with more than 1,430 entries in all of the competitive events that are related to technology, innovation, design and engineering.

The Technology Student Association is a career and technical student organization dedicated to students interested in the invention and innovation of technology. Through TSA, members have the opportunity to participate in a vast amount of technology-focused competitive events, take part in community service work and become leaders for the organization in their school, state and nation. TSA expands on the curriculum of technology education classes and emphasizes the importance of knowledge, leadership and teamwork.

Students from across the state competed with each other in events covering areas including computer aided design, digital video production, engineering design, flight, inventions and innovations, magnetic levitation vehicles, rocketry, structural engineering, system control technology and technological problem-solving. Each TSA competitive event requires students to apply technology, solve technical problems, conduct research and invent solutions. A list of event results can be found here.

Additionally, Appoquinimink High School was recognized for its outstanding spirit and honored with the 2013 Delaware TSA Chapter Spirit Award.

The following members were elected to serve as state officers for 2013-2014:

President – Michael Krueger, Concord High School
Vice President – Emily Wong, Concord High School
Secretary – Rebecca Williams, Mount Pleasant High School
Treasurer – Michael Canning, Caesar Rodney High School
Reporter – Johnny Bui, Postlethwait Middle School
Sergeant-at-Arms – Quan Bui, Concord High School

The TSA members in attendance also supported the American Cancer Society (ACS) by collecting contributions at the conference that raised nearly $1,000 on site.

The students honored at the state conference may have earned the opportunity to be invited to represent Delaware at the 35th Annual National TSA Conference that will be will be held in Orlando. Those attending the National Conference will have the opportunity to compete nationally, meet people from all over the country and even other countries, participate with the American Cancer Society with National TSA, and vote for the next National Officer Team!
